What we collect

JoyScanner collects the minimum data needed to provide the service:

• Scan inputs — the constraints you enter (time, budget, energy, mood, company, experience type). These are sent to our server to generate suggestions and are stored to improve recommendation quality.
• Email address — if you sign in to save recommendations. We use magic links, so we never store a password.
• Saved recommendations and feedback — your saves and thumbs up/down ratings.
• Analytics events — anonymous usage data (page views, scan completions, button clicks) to understand how the product is used.

How we use your data

• To generate personalised recommendations
• To send magic link authentication emails
• To improve recommendation quality over time
• To understand aggregate usage patterns

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.

AI processing

Your scan inputs are sent to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) to generate suggestions. Only the scan constraints and recommendation data are included — not your email address or personal identity.

Cookies and analytics

We use a session cookie (HTTP-only) to keep you signed in. This is essential and does not require consent.

With your consent, we use PostHog for analytics — tracking anonymous usage events like page views, scan completions, and button clicks. PostHog cookies are only set after you click “Accept” on the consent banner. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser data or contacting us.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or trackers.

Data retention

Scan records and saved recommendations are retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
